Using the Property Calculator
The following steps show the overall workflow of the Property Calculator.
-
Open the Property Calculator and:
- In the JewelExplorer select a Target Object for which you want to generate a new property and property calculator model. Target objects that can be selected are surface representations (tri-mesh, 2D grid, polyline set, point set and markers), the ‘Wells’ item (this selects all wells) and individual wellbores, seismic volumes, 3D grids and 3D meshes. To select multiple targets objects, press the CTRL key while selecting.
- Either in the JewelExplorer or in the Property Calculator, select an existing property (
) which gets updated when the calculation is performed. Not all properties are eligible for selection due to their association with other properties or models, and a warning will appear behind their name on the form. - In the Property Calculator select an existing property calculator model (
) for which you can update the existing expression.
- (For new properties only) In the Target Property section on the form you must define the following:
- Property (calculator model) name - Selecting a name from the drop-down list will update the corresponding property and/or property calculator model). To create a new property and property calculator model, select Create new and enter a name in the entry field below (a name with all characters is supported).
- Property type - Depending on the property you are calculating, you can specify the appropriate type. For example, if a porosity property is being calculated, then select the Porosity type here. If the type is not to be defined, select the Undefined type. Specifying the correct Property type is very important since several property selection lists only show properties with the correct property type. E.g. if you are asked to select a density property on another form, you will only be able to select a property with the type: Density.
- Type of steps - You can create a property with several time steps or with several realizations. See The 'Target Property area' for more details.
- Storage type - Depending on the selected object type, you can specify different types to 'store' the output of the expression. See The 'Target Property area' for more details.
- Folder - This option is only available when a 3D grid is selected. Select the folder in which a new property will be stored. If you select None the new property will be stored directly under the 3D grid or, if available, under the 'Properties' item of the 3D grid.
- Type the calculator expression in the Expression text field. To do this, use one of the following methods or combinations:
- Manually type the expression in the expression area.
- Use one of the operators available in the Operators section.
- Use the Properties and Variables section to add an existing property of your selected object to the expression.
- Use one of the built-in functions to generate a default expression based on existing properties in your solution. For details, see Property Calculator functions and examples.
- Copy & paste text into the expression area from any other source.
- Click Apply or OK to calculate or update the property and/or property calculator model. The new property calculator model is saved to the property calculator and stored in the drop-down list, the new property is available under the selected object in the JewelExplorer.
